American Microphone Company Model D4

Due to the obvious resemblance, the 1940’s era D4 manufactured by the American Microphone Company belongs to a group of microphones known as “salt shakers.”  Relatively heavy and durable, it was commonly used for broadcast in the US military, and later became a favorite of harmonica players.  The item shown below recently sold on eBay for $73.51.  UPDATE: I think I spotted this microphone in the great American classic comedy Airplane!.  Photos below.
