About Vintage Mike’s

My father was a collector and restorer of vintage microphones and antique radios.  After holding on to his entire microphone collection for some time, I have decided to keep only a few pieces.  Here each post will feature a different item from the collection (most which will be available on eBay), in part so that I can always look back at an organized record.

More info:

  • I am not looking to acquire any additional antique microphones or radios; there’s no need to ask me about purchasing your item.  I am not a store, distributor, reseller, etc.  I’m just a guy documenting the sale of an inherited collection.
  • I am not an expert in this field, though if you have a question I will do my best to answer.  Please understand that any appraisal or technical advice is honestly just a guess and you should absolutely seek out additional opinions.

Thank you for visiting my blog!

Hi Mike, i wonder if you’d be able to help, i bought a EV 731 for my girlfriend a couple of years ago, with the intention of her being able to use it for concerts, she’s a Jazz singer. The microphone works but the problem is it isn’t very loud. I can’t see anything obviously wrong inside it. Would you happen to have an idea of what it could be? I’m using an normal xlr mic lead with a jack socket on the end. Do i need a different lead, or phantom power or something? Hope you can help.

Hi Jess! I’m not sure what the problem would be there.. if it is just normal behavior from the element aging or if it can be repaired by a technician. Perhaps a pre-amp would also be a solution here?

    Hello,
I saw the bluebird on ebay and was wondering if you could get in contact with me regarding the radio. I have a few questions.
    Thanks.

Feel free to ask a question on eBay, so I can answer and add to the listing for all to see, or maybe just ask a question in a comment on this blog?
